Karen Sutherland joined the Buildings Research Division at the Florida Solar Energy Center (FSEC) in 2009. Ms. Sutherland conducts residential energy audits, performs research and analysis, and provides technical assistance on energy efficiency for home renovations, primarly for affordable housing. She has authored papers and presented to various audiences on energy efficient retrofit measures in the hot and humid climate. She is also a certified RESNET® Class I Energy Rater and a Florida Green Building Coalition (FGBC) Green Home Certifying Agent. Ms. Sutherland has a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Alaska Anchorage (1998) and a Bachelors of Science in Management Information Systems within Business Administration from the University of South Florida (1990) and has a background in "green" residential real estate.
